Showcases and Tours in the u.s
Playing gigs in the US involves a few important steps when it comes to visas and legal requirements. It's incredibly exciting to be invited to international showcase festivals, congratulations if you’ve been offered a slot! That said, it’s really important to make sure all the proper paperwork is in place before performing outside the EU, especially in countries like the U.S.
Not following the correct process can lead to serious consequences, including being barred from touring there in the future. So enjoy the opportunity and plan carefully!
Types of Visas
There are several visa classifications available, depending on factors like your level of national or international recognition, the size and structure of your team, and whether your music is considered culturally unique. A full guide can be found here.
Exceptions
Irish artists can perform at SXSW under an ESTA, as it’s a special exception. However, for any other showcase festival in the U.S., one of the visas listed above will be required.
Funding for Touring & Showcasing
Music From Ireland, with support from Culture Ireland, partners with a range of international events. If you’re invited to perform at one of these partner events, you’re automatically eligible for funding to support your participation. See more here.
